Dr. Katherine Mosquera
Postdoctoral Fellow
Katherine is an Ecuadorian vector biologist with expertise in kissing bugs and mosquitoes. She got a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnological Engineering (2013) at Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas – ESPE (Sangolquí, Ecuador).
About Dr. Katherine Mosquera
She obtained both her Master’s (2017) and Ph.D. (2021) degrees in Health Sciences with an emphasis on Infectious and Parasitic Diseases at René Rachou Institute – FIOCRUZ (Belo Horizonte, Brazil). During those years, she was part of the Vector Behavior and Pathogen Interaction group headed by Dr. Marcelo Lorenzo. Her studies explored several aspects related to the behavior and chemical ecology behind Rhodnius spp. shelter exploitation and Aedes aegypti oviposition-site seeking.
In 2022, she joined the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Uppsala University (Sweden) as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Olle Terenius' group. Her studies focused on evaluating the attractiveness of high-efficiency traps by estimating the distance from which host-seeking Anopheles mosquitoes are traveling to these traps, by analyzing their unique bacterial profiles to indicate where they have previously been.
With her background and the opportunity to join the AnkarklevLab, Katherine is devoted to further develop her computational biology skills and contribute to implementing big-data integration tools to predict host competence for vector-borne diseases.
