Jaclyn Quin

Dr. Jaclyn Quin

Postdoctoral Fellow

Jaclyn has a passion for understanding the role of the immune response in a malaria. She has expertise in the fields of genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology and immunology. After having lived in the Czech Republic for a few years, she is now returning to Stockholm to continue investigating host-pathogen interactions.

About Jaclyn Quin

Jaclyn got her Bachelor’s degree in Genetics from the University of Melbourne. During that time, she worked under the supervision of Prof. Stephen Jane studying the role of the PRMT5 protein in the regulation of the human β-globin locus.

After working as a research assistant at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, she undertook a PhD in the labs of Prof Ross Hannan and Prof Elaine Sanij. During her graduate research, she investigated the pathways that mediate therapeutic response to small molecule which inhibits RNA polymerase I in tumour models.

Jaclyn then received a Lawski Foundation Research scholarship and joined Prof. Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants’ at Stockholm University to immerse herself in the field of malaria research. Her project consisted in understanding the protection against malaria exhibited by members of the Fulani ethnic group. Jaclyn also worked in the Sverremark-Ekström’s group, where she acquired a strong background in immunology research techniques.

During the last few years, Jaclyn has been working at the Central European Institute of technology in Brno (Czech Republic) in Prof. Mary O’Connell’s lab. There, she has continued as a project leader working on malaria; specifically, she has been investigating how the ADAR1 protein mediates the innate immune response to a P. falciparum infection.

Jaclyn is an adventurer at heart and loves spending time in nature hiking and snowboarding. She is the person to go to if looking for the best clothes thrift stores in town!
