Dr. Diego Macedo
Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr. Diego Macedo joined the AnkarklevLab as a postdoctoral fellow during the spring of 2022. He performed his bachelor’s degree in Biomedicine at the FUMEC University- Belo Horizonte/Brazil where he worked with venom inhibitors in tropical snakes at the FUNED research center (Minas Gerais state government).
About Diego Macedo
He received his master’s degree in Health Sciences from the René Rachou research center (FIOCRUZ/MG) in the group of Dr. Rodrigo Soares, PhD, studying Leishmania glycoconjugates and RNA viruses.
More recently, Diego defended his Ph.D. at the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) under the supervision of Professor Vyacheslav Yurchenko. The PhD thesis included investigations of the prevalence, genetic structure, and viral/host relationships in Leishmania spp. and several related monoxenous trypanosomatid species.
As a postdoc, Dr Macedo has set out to explore sexual stage biology in Plasmodium falciparum
Outside the lab, Diego is an avid football supporter and closely follows his favorite teams, Atlético Mineiro, in the Brazilian Série A, as well as his newly discovered runner up favorite team, A.I.K., in the Swedish Football league, Allsvenskan
